More Gardening

I put out some more plants this weekend and now think I am done planting thingd for this season. Now comes the work of weeding and keeping things watered. I now have plants in several containers plus two patches of the landscaping. I also have a few seeds scattered in the containers and vegetable beds. The grand total is now: 8 tomato and cherry tomato plants, 7 sweet potato plants (it was 8 but a cat dug up one), 2 blueberry bushes, 1 raspberry bush plus 2 raspberry canes, 4 yellow squash plants, 4 cucumber plants, 4 or 5 pepper plants, 1 cinnamon basil plant, oregano and chives that came back up from last year, Romaine and buttercrunch lettuce, plus zucchini, carrots, and basil planted from seeds. I considered also planting potatoes since I have seen directions for planting them in containers, but decided not to this year. Last summer was extremely hot and my plants didn't do as well. This year I plan to keep things watered well, and to move the containers to shade when it is too hot for too long. I hope to have lots of produce to turn into salsa, pizza sauce, bags of frozen stir fry veggies, freezer jam, and other wonderful things. I recently got a food processor at a yard sale for $10 and look forward to giving it a wrokout chopping fresh veggies. I am also looking forward to our local seasonal farmers' market opening on Saturday mornings. Last summer I got some wonderul peaches and zucchini relish there and can't wait to go get more. I love fresh fruit and veggie season!
